Sakinah Foundation Leads "No Sex for Pads" Campaign across Schools

In 2021, Sakinah Foundation conducted a powerful and impactful Sexual & Menstrual Health Education Camp across different Schools, reaching over 1,583 students with a vital message: “No Sex for Pads.”

This initiative directly tackled the harsh reality faced by many adolescent girls in underserved areas—engaging in transactional sex just to afford sanitary pads. Through open dialogue, education, and dignity-restoring support, the foundation brought both awareness and tangible solutions to a deeply rooted issue.

Health Education That Breaks Barriers

The education sessions, facilitated by qualified healthcare workers and trained youth advocates, focused on:

  • Menstrual hygiene management

  • The dangers of transactional sex

  • Sexual and reproductive health rights

  • Consent, self-worth, and body autonomy

The sessions encouraged open conversations, debunked myths, and provided life-saving information in a safe, stigma-free environment.

“Today I learned that I don’t have to feel ashamed of my period or my body. I can speak up and ask for help.”
– Student, Luorro Secondary School

Dignity Through Access: Sanitary Towels Distribution

To complement the education, Sakinah Foundation distributed free sanitary towels to all female students in attendance. For many, this was not just a donation—it was a lifeline.

By providing access to menstrual products, the initiative aims to:

  • Reduce school absenteeism among girls

  • Prevent exploitative relationships born out of economic desperation

  • Promote menstrual dignity and health

“No girl should ever have to trade her body for a pad. Pads are a right, not a luxury.”
– Japheth Karani, Project Coordinator, Sakinah Foundation

A Movement, Not Just a Moment

The “No Sex for Pads” campaign is more than a slogan. It’s a movement towards creating safer, healthier futures for young girls. Sakinah Foundation plans to expand this campaign to more schools and communities, ensuring that no girl is left behind due to her period.

We extend our deepest thanks to the Luorro Secondary School administration, community leaders, volunteers, and our generous donors who made this event possible.
