In a recent community outreach event held in April 2022, Sakinah Foundation reached 136 street boys in the heart of Kisumu City, bringing them much-needed support, care, and hope. This initiative was designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to inspire lasting change in the lives of young boys who face the harsh realities of street life.
The event kicked off with an inspiring and heartfelt outreach program, where volunteers, social workers, and community leaders came together to distribute food, hygiene kits, and clothing to the boys. But it wasn’t just about material support—this initiative was also about empowering these young boys with knowledge and a sense of dignity.
During the event, a series of activities were conducted, including:
Health and hygiene education
Mental health and emotional well-being discussions
Life skills workshops, including conflict resolution and financial literacy
One-on-one mentorship and counseling
One of the key components of the outreach was mentorship. Through personal interactions, the boys were encouraged to express their feelings, share their experiences, and open up about their dreams and challenges. For many, this was the first time they felt heard and validated.
“I always felt like I was invisible. Today, I feel seen and like I have a future,”
– Street boy, Age 14
While the immediate impact of the event was visible through the smiles and gratitude of the street boys, the real change lies in the long-term support systems being put into place. Sakinah Foundation aims to:
Connect the boys with local shelters and education programs
Provide mentorship and skills training to help them reintegrate into society
Partner with local businesses and organizations to offer apprenticeships and job opportunities
Through these efforts, the foundation hopes to reduce the number of street children, offering them the tools they need to build a better future for themselves.
The response from the boys was incredibly positive. Many expressed hope for a brighter future and a willingness to take the first steps toward transformation:
“I want to learn a skill and start working. I want to change my life and help others who are on the street,”
– Street boy, Age 17
The success of this outreach event is only the beginning. Sakinah Foundation remains committed to extending its reach and providing ongoing support to street boys. This includes organizing monthly follow-ups, training workshops, and a safe space for continuous learning and personal growth.
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, donors, and community leaders who made this event a reality. Your support is changing lives and creating a brighter future for these young boys.
